Vanpools are one of the most cost-effective ways to commute and there are several vanpools traveling to Portland from Southwest Washington. Vanpools are five to fifteen people who want to share a ride to downtown Portland. If the existing vanpools don’t meet your needs, the Metro VanPool program can assist you in forming a vanpool and coordinating the vanpool services. Metro VanPool’s incentive program even pays for 50% of the basic monthly van lease! Passengers split the remaining costs. For more information and a list of existing vanpools, contact Metro VanPool. Your vanpool can also take advantage of carpool parking.
In addition to the Metro VanPool incentives, you can take advantage of the Southbound Solutions Vanpool Incentives as well!

There are several options available to southbound commuters who want to relax during their commute and leave the driving to someone else. With the cooperative efforts of C-TRAN and TriMet, there may be a transit route that is a perfect fit for you!

While Downtown Portland may seem like a long bike ride, it may be an option for you. Many people already make this commute by bicycle. Both the I-5 and I-205 bridges have bike paths that are accessible from both Vancouver and Portland.
You can ride the whole distance or you can ride your bike to a bus stop or transit center and either lock your bike there (if secure facilities are available) or you can take your bike with you. Contact SmartTrips Downtown to order bicycling information, including the new Cycling the Cities bicycle map of Vancouver and Portland or you can send us an e-mail that includes your name and mailing address and we’ll send one to you right away!
